As someone with a biochemistry background and also a health and fitness background (mine !) and supplementation I was interested to hear the distinct parallels between modern supplementation techniques for human training and horse training. The key thing with resistance training and body muscle post exercise repair and increase is to provide the supplement, as Dr Chang states, within the window of opportunity.
The effects on post training growth hormone etc with supplementation is well documented in humans and the use of branch chain amino acids such as Valine in horses post training is an interesting technique. However the biochemical pathways of man and beast are different so don’t be tempted to use human muscle building supplements wildly although I think the cost would be prohibitive !
All the best from the UK.
